Hi,Mr MOO -

First you need to go in > control panel > system > "hardware" tab >
click on device manger > A window should open up with all your icons >
go to the network adaptors > click on the cross > you should see your ethernet
card there ( say something like intel(R)pro/100 M network)> left click on the
underlined words > under the "general" tab - botton of the menu look for a
selection box & arrow down > you should see the a heading "device useage:" >
click the arrow down > select "use this device (enabled). Done

# Disconnect your usb lead out of the modem & computer > Restart your computer >
follow the instruction that comes with your ip software>
Now reinstall your ip software but remember to select "ethernet as you connection"
When the option is asked of you !!!
Get rid of your usb connection in the "my netwoks folder" afterward - after the ethernet
is up & running!!!!

have funn

ok so I did everything you did except I got different results from your plan. The network adapter(shows up as 1394 adapter) is enabled but the ethernet controller is having problems. I enable the ethernet controller but it says even though its enabled it still is having problems. i then restarted my computer and went and uninstalled the usb connection software. I restarted again. I still get the same results though. The ethernet controller is enabled but its still having problems(still in yellow) and the 1394 adapter is working fine and is enabled(thats what device manager says. Im really frustrated.

can't you just go start/control panel/network connections/ and click on what ever network device you have... that should enable it, it enables my ethernet through that way

Reinstall the card & drivers and ignore the Windows Logo message and go ahead to install the driver.  The 1394 adapter is your firewire card.

I seem to be having the same problem.

I have the same DELL DIMENSION 4600 with XP, but I cannot seem to find the driver, or the computer is not recognizing it.  I tried the above, and when I rebooted my computer, the network tap in My Hardware was gone.  When I removed the ethernet and put the USB back in, the network tab came back.

I have not or can not install the ethernet control driver.  I have all the disks that came with the computer, however, the only network adaptor I have installed is:  Speedstream ethernet adaptor

these are the other options I have to install on the Dell driver disk:

broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet rev: aoo-oo

Intel 10/100 LOM A05-00 (there is a checkmark beside this one)

Microsoft Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) Rev:A00-00

the first and last drivers have no checkmarks beside them when I load up the DELL Driver disk

can anyone point out the proper driver to use for my ethernet controller on this disk?  or am I doing something wrong?

thanks in advance!

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2834

This should be your driver, according to the downloads section and providing it is not a 4600C.

Thanks jmwills. I went ahead and did what you said do, which was reinstall my card and drivers and I ignored the Windows Logo message. Only real problem I had was to find the
e100b325.sys file cause I had no clue where it was. Did a file search on it and found then it asked for the PROuninstall file. It wouldnt grab it from the resource cd for some reason but I knew where it was(luckily) in my Dell\drivers file. Opened it and it fixed everything. Thanks for the help everyone.
