A yellow question mark next to the device in Device Manager is indicative of no install or faulty install of the driver. Attempt another driver installation, manually? Yes, the Ethernet controller is the cause for your failure to connect to the internet.
Dell's download site lists both Broadcom 4401 Intergrated NIC and Broadcom Netxtreme Gigabit Ethernet for my computer. Would I need both of these drivers? If not is there a way to determine which is the correct one?
The downloaded file is a .exe file that you can couble-click on and it will run. You need to know where it is saved when you download it and then go there using Windows Explorer and double-click the file name, which begins with an R and ends in .exe.

Download and install the BCM4401 driver (Windows XP 32bit version) from the following link:
http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php
See if that helps?
