Ethernet for Dimension 4400?

I have the ethernet cable and it doesn't fit into any of them. It has two phone jacks and 2 USB 1.0 ports. That's it.

Dell sales told me to purchase a PCI card. Is that the same as a ethernet adapter?

If I buy the PCI card will the drivers come with it on a CD?

I do not know the specifications of your computer. The ethernet adapter is a little bigger than a telephone jack. My old computer did not come with one. I went to a local store and purchased an ethernet adapter. You have to install the drivers first, then shutdown the computer. Unplug from wall. Ground yourself to the frame of the computer and install the ethernet adapter.

I bought a 2-wire router so I can go wireless. I tried that, but with the 1.0 USB port it was too slow. Then I bought the ethernet wire and then saw their was no jack for it. That will be faster you say, so that is the way I want to go.

I have 2 slots available.

Does the PCI card come with a CD with the drivers? Or do I have to download them from dell.com?

The place you purchase the card, it should come in a package with instructions.

That should work. I just went to a local store and bought the ethernet card and installed the drivers first, then attached it. The basics are to install the drivers first.

I don't know how many slots you have available, so the decision is on what you need. Wired is faster than wireless. Somw people use a wireless adapter to get away from the extra wires, but it's slower. Don't know if you have wireless capabilities in the DSL modem or not. If you're a gamer, you'll want to be wired.
