Ethernet port not working.
I'm having the same problem as Veronica...My internet will now work through the ethernet port...only a USB. I too am trying to set up a router that requires the ethernet connection. IT says the cord is not plugged in. I have tried three cords and it still says that. I have downloaded the latest driver. I have an XPS 410.

can you check if the card is enabled or detected on the device manager..
and make sure that your not using the usb at the same time..
you also check the link lights on the ethernet port itself.. :smileywink:

I belive you mentioned in your other post in the XPS board that this quit a while ago.
Do as the previous poster suggest, check device manager for any ! or X next to the adapter listing. Look in the bios to make sure it is enabled. look at the staus lights where the cable plugs in. if they are working then there might be a software issue. If not the adapter might be bad.
Also try this Power down everything computer and modem. unplug the modem and wait about 3 min. Then with the modem off and the computer off connect the cable between the computer and the modem. Power on the modem. Wait another 3-5 mins for all the lights on the modem to come on. Then power on the computer and see if it connects.
one more thing is to open the network connections and make sure that the LAN or local area connection listing is enabled.
Again if all this fails then the possiblilty is good that the adapter(NIC) is bad. If so I would suggest getting an inexpensive addin PCI NIC. you can usually pick on up for betweeen 10-20 dollars.

You might find one a wallyworld. Just as for a ethernet PCI card. Yes you will have to open the case and install the adapter.
This is an example of what one whould look like.

Here's some info on how to open your system and add a card.
