It is unclear from your message whether the hookup to the router doesn't work or the hook up using ethernet directly to the modem doesn't work. Is this cable or dsl? Are you aware that you cannot have the USB cable and the ethernet cable connected at the same time? When you switch the device connected to the modem, have you been doing a full reset of the modem by shutting everything down (including the modem) waiting 5 minutes, then turning on the modem, waiting 5 more minutes, then powering on the device connected to the modem, followed by powering up any other computers?
I am trying to set the modem up with the ethernet cable.....I plan to install a linksys wrt54g ...It really seems that my computer...Dimension 8250 wont recognize the ethernet port....hope that helps ya help me....THANKS A MILLION....Jeffro
I have cable....when I install the modem with the usb cable it works fine....I unistall the modem, unplug everything....follow all instructions for installing the modem using the ethernet cable and it doesnt work...the modem still lights up(power, cable, and pc)...it seems as though my computer will not recognize the ethernet hook up....
If you go into Device Manager and expand the listing for Network Adapters, does your ethernet adapter show up there? If you open Network Connections, does the ethernet adapter show up there? To help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.
There seems to be a lot of extraeneous stuff in the ipconfig output. Did you introduce some extra stuff when you copied this into the reply? Still, you seem be getting a valid IP address and everything should work. I do question the entery for the subnet mask - it normally should be 255.255.
255.0 instead of 255.255.
240.0.
You might want to get rid of the teredo tunneling adapter, as it often causes problems. Go to a command prompt and type -
netsh interface ipv6 uninstall then hit the Enter key. Reboot the computer and see if the problem has now resolved itself.
