Evil Mc Affe

Question

I have a dimension 1100. It came preinstalled with Mc Affe virus scan. I activated it, and was using it. The trail period ended and now I am not able to uninstall it because it cant connect to the internet to verify my subscription, and say that i am the administrator user. When the trial period was still valid i was using the internet everyday.   I have contacted Mc Affe and they sent me software to remove the programe, but it is not workin. it cant remove the last part, or something...?   please help

Can you be a little bit more specific about what it can not remove?  Download what you need and try removing it again.

Well what I mean is.

In my add/ remove program window in controll panel, there is a Mc Affe uninstaller in the list.

when I open it there is the option to unistall: Mc Affe Spam Killer and security centre, when I try to uninstall both, it gets stuck at the end of uninstalling the spamkiller.

I dont know of any programmes that I can use to completly remove the programme.

I cant access the internet from my desktop, but other people can access it from my router. so I know I am connected to the net.

If all else fails to remove it try these two ideas:

1): Make sure the Application is Closed in Task Manager

2): If that won't let you remove it, try booting into SAFE Mode (F8 at startup)
and then follow the info in step #1

One of these two should be able to uninstall it

Uninstall the Security portion first, if that is possible.  This is one reason I do not like combination programs like this.

I think you found your own solution as I was about to suggest a complete reinstall to replace any missing files you have have deleted by mistake.  The once it is reinstalled, try an unistall thru the Add/Remove Programs applet.

I tried to uninstall in safe mode, but it did not work.

but i did come across a error message.

It read that this file is missing: C:\progra~1\mcafee.com\agent\unins\screm.ui

maybe if i replace this file it should work.

How will i get the file? Mc Afee was pre installed on my PC. i have put the windows disk in to do a repair of any corrupt files, as i was told.

You should have received a Resource Cd with all those programs on it.  If not, go the the mcAfee site and download a free trial version.

The resource cd that i got with my pc just has windows components on it, not any McAfee files. When i download it, because I am on another PC the download option, downloads to that PC. I cant save it to a USB 2.0 stick, and transfer to my pc. could someone maybe send me the file to my e-mail add?

hi Well i downloaded a force uninstaller, and remover all the MC Afee files. but i am still am not able to access the internet, i cant connect to the server.
