FAX SETUP????
I have had my Dimension 4600 a little over a year now.I just came across faxing possiblities
when I was looking at 'add/remove Windows components.I was not aware that I did
not have to pay an internet service for sending/receiving faxes.
I do not have a fax machine, but I do have a scanner with faxing capabilities.I was
wondering just how I might be able to setup the built-in fax feature with my pc?
I tried doing it on my own,I checked the 'fax' box on the add/remove and it instructed
me to insert the Dell cd.I did this and could get no where.
Can someone here help me out in setting up fax?

>My telephone service is through my ISP.
Not sure what you mean by that statement. You don't use ISP and or connect to internet to send fax from your PC, as long as you have dial-up modem connected to regular phone line. If you don't have dial-up modem, you won't be able to send fax from the computer without internet service that let you send/receive faxes over the net.
Sounds like you probably don't have (fax-enabled) dial-up modem installed and that's why the fax console wasn't installed on your system. Open Phone/Modem control panel and click on Modem tab. If only your broadband modem is listed then you don't have a dial-up modem. If dial-up modem is listed, you need to install the fax components for Windows. Open Add/Remove Programs control panel and click button on left to add/remove Windows components, check fax and have your Windows CD handy for the installation. If you don't have dial-up modem but want to send faxes directly from your PC, you could always install a modem, either internally or connected via USB. Just remember the dial-up modem will need a connection to the phone line, and you'll only be able to fax files created or stored on your PC.

Not necessarily. Click Modem tab in that screen and see if it lists a 56K dial-up modem (possibly "Intel" or "Conextant" with a model number), and probably attached to COM3.
You can go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn&~tab=2
and enter the Dell service tag number to see if a modem was included in your original for system configuration.

Took a look at phone and modem options.Under Dialing Rules it lists my area code.
Does this indicate I do have fax capabilities?
