To connect two ethernet cards together you will need a special ethernet cable called a cross-over cable.  You will then have to manually set up a network, assigning IP address in the local range to each network card (for example 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2).

Open Network Connections, right click your LAN connection, select properties from the drop-down menu.  In the box that opens, find and select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on the Properties button.  Select "Use the following IP address" and type in the IP address you want to use. For the subnet mask, use 255.255.255.0.  Do this on both computers, making sure the that the last digit of the IP address you assign is different on each computer.

Did you read my previous reply - http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=netwkint&message.id=6141

The 192.168.xxx.xxx IP addresses are for use on local networks.  What you are creating is a local network.  These IP addresses will not work over the internet.
