If you're using 64-bit, Adobe doesn't have a version of Flash Player that really works well. Most comuters that have 64-bit also have 2 versions of Internet Explorer installed. One that says 64-bit and one that is just called Internet Explorer. The one that's called Internet Explorer is the 32-bit version and will work for websites.
If using more than one browser, (Example Internet Exporer, Mozilla Firefox) They both use a different version of flash player and you'll have to go to Adobe's website in each browser.
Sorry Rick, you're right...I don't see the info about 32 bit or 64 bit but here's what I wrote down: Windows XP Service Pack 3; Celeron 2.53; 512 RAM
Anything else that would be helpful? I went to Adobe's website and tried to follow their directions, they sent me to Windows website to download some weird thing which I did but I don't know what else to do. I also disabled my bitdefender (antivirus etc.) and tried to download. I am out of options here. One note mentioned getting administrator priveleges but this is a home computer and mine is the administrator accoutn, so that shouldn't be the problem.
I have downloaded this thing about 10 times now, each time it says it was successful but it wasn't. Most of the time, I told it not to download the google bar and I thought maybe that was the problem, so one time I did allow the google toolbar. Well, the toolbar is definitely installed and working but the flashplayer is not. Sigh. Thanks for trying to help!
Hi Rick...not sure I unerstand everything you wrote but here's what I can tell you... (I pasted your message below with my notes)

One that says 64-bit and one that is just called Internet Explorer. The one that's called Internet Explorer is the 32-bit version and will work for websites. As far as I can tell, I think I have the 32 bit version, but I'm not positive how to check this. i did look at something behind the scenes, via the "tools" drop down menu, then "manage add ons" and something said 32 bit so I think that's what I have. Plus my browser is called Internet Explorer, and you say that one is the 32 bit one...so...
In case one of the older version(s) of flash player are causing problems, please read How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX controlI think that I did that, I had followed those directions from the adobe web page and tried to do it but I can try again.
Restart your computer. Now go here...
Adobe Get Flash PlayerI think I did this already after "uninstalling" the adobe flash player. Honestly, I feel like I've tried to follow all of the directions and I just don't know what else to do. I may have to hire a computer person to come to my house and figure this out. I have never experienced something so baffling, in my ten yeaers of owning and managing my home computer!!
If using more than one browser, (Example Internet Exporer, Mozilla Firefox) They both use a different version of flash player and you'll have to go to Adobe's website in each browser. I only have IE so this part doesn't apply.
Thanks Rick for helping. I will probably go back to square one, try to uninstall flash player. turn off my bitdefender, and cross my fingers for luck. I'm losing track of everything I've tried so far!!
Just kidding. But I am so grateful to your help. I went back to your note above, clicked where you linked me, followed the directions exactly in the order that they appeared, some of which I had not found on my own previously, despite my best efforts! It worked it worked it worked!!!
I am now flashing away...well, you know what I mean.

Sorry, I'm already married! :emotion-5: GREAT JOB! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. Could you mark the verify answer(s) that helped you solve your problem, so if someone else searches the forums, they can see what you did to fix your problem(s).
Rick, yes I marked the verify answer to help someone else. It's odd that adobe seems to know that there is a problem...there are warning notes all over their website, yet their solution was far too convoluted to be helpful. As expected, you my Dell Community Friend, solved my problem. This is why I love owning a Dell...helpful advice from people who know what they're talking about. have a great Easter and tell your wife I said she's lucky. It's handy to have a techno-geek around! (Of course, I like my handy man husband too, but I'm just saying...!)

Lori,
You didn't mention your operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit? Start, control panel, system. The information will be there.
