FTP Issues

Question

Hi all, I am having issues connecting to ANY ftp server. No matter what I try, several different ftp clients, IE, using a command line, whatever, I am not able to make any connection to an ftp server. It seems to make no difference which servers I try, either. Public, private, my own ISP's web servers - all are denied to me. My Dell came with Norton Internet Security 2005 (Anti Spyware Edition) in which I have tried both switching off the firewall and enabling any traffic on port 25 - to no effect. Windows XP's own firewall is disabled I used to use a USB ADSL modem for connection but have now switched to a Netgear ADSL modem router. The built-in firewall is, as far as I can tell, set to allow traffic via port 25 but I am still not able to get anywhere (and yes, I have tried turning off the Norton firewall since changing to the router :) ) Any assistance that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. Scruffy_Tazzy,   Port 25 is your SMTP port.  Open ports 20 and 21 for FTP.  You can also open port 115 for SFTP.  Check this link for standard port assignments:   http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers   Keep in mind that some applications may not use standard port assignments, so check the logs of your firewall to see what port(s) your software is attempting to use.
