Get DNS error message

Need to configure my internet explorer web proxy.  Ran diag found that network adapter failed.  I have DSL.  Can't  access secured websites, ie my bank accts. and hotmail.  Need help

Your DNS server address should have been supplied by your DSL provider. Go to control panel, network connections. Right click on your adapter, and click on properties. Srcoll down to TCP/IP and click on properties. For most ISPs the setting should be 'Obtain automatically'. Your ISP, may have provided you with the addresses, in that case, click on 'use these', and enter the IP number or numbers they gave you.
