Ghosting a D600

Was wondering if anyone came across and figured out how to fix this problem. Ghost 7.5 detects the Broadcom NIC but can't start the session. NDIS2 driver loaded correctly but Ghost refuses to start. Error message mentions this
"You may need to add the line
RECEIVE_MODE=6
to the WATTCP.CFG file"
Even after that line was added I still have the same error.

Here's my PROTOCOL.INI
[protman]
drivername=PROTMAN$

[pktdrv]
drivername=PKTDRV$
bindings=nic
intvec=0x60
chainvec=0x66

[nic]
drivername = B57$

Gra-vt,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You may want to approach the support folks at Semantec for support with their product.  There may be a software patch that I am unaware of because I support Dell hardware.

One work-around that I have found to work for all the different notebooks I have to deal with is that Ghost v7.5 supports the 3C575 (PC-Card) NIC,  and that has worked on every Dell,  Compaq, and IBM I have tried so far.  The beauty of that solution is that you don't have to worry about keeping multiple boot disks around,  but you do have to keep track of that PC-Card NIC.

I got transfered around and finally gave up but will try again. Thanks for the reply.

Well,  the 3C575 is a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet NIC,  so it's speed should equal that of the Broadcom card,  but since it won't work well for you...

Thought of that but the problem is we have 600 users and multiple offices around the country and this is not an option for the regional techs. Besides, I'd like to use the speed on the Broadcom card.

I was able to get a hold of one of the Symantec's techies but they were no help. Was Ghost ever tested with the new Ds at Dell?

Has anyone whipped up a Ghost disk for this yet?  I, too, will be in this boat very soon and will need to get an image setup and then uploaded to my server.  I usually use a Xircom card to do my ghosting (single boot disk needed as mentioned above) but since there's only 1 pcmcia slot and this card needs 2 - I'm outta luck.

If anyone's got this working I'd love to get a copy of your bootdisk!

TIA -

I've managed to get my 600m to ghost to my desktop (in fact it's doing it right now). When it finishes I'll create the boot disk and verify the image, if all goes well I'll post the results.

UPDATE: So the ghosting went fine. The verify went fine, I think maybe we are doing two different things though. I used tcp/ip peer to peer, set the 600m to master, 8250 to slave and everything went fine. I did have to build a nic template for the Broadcom though, as Ghost did not recognize it. I then created peer to peer boot disks for both computers and was on my way.

I tried to create a mapped drive boot disk but for some reason my router would not let me in! It would get to "Waiting for DHCP server" and then give me an error saying something about unknown user id or group name.

Hola 51 -

What I'm trying to do is this...  I have a Win2000 server setup with the Ghost Multicast server app.  This allows me to boot up machines using a Ghost DOS boot disk and then dump an image to or from a PC from the server.  I;ve got about 30+ gigs of images right now for my 200+ users in my Department, so I can't live without this wonderful app.

Unfortunately I'm not an ace at the boot disk creation and could use some solid teaching on the subject.  I tend to have to teach myself everything...

In a pinch what I may be able to do is use an IDE convertor that'll let me chain up a laptop drive to a desktop machines IDE cable.  I can then ghost the drive using the desktop and when completed just drop it back into the laptop.  Clunky, but it'll get the job done.

Thanks for the feedback.

OK folks - good news finally
The problem is in the driver. I downloaded the driver for the Blade servers which use the same Broadcom NIC and made a Ghost disk out of it and it worked. I can email you the correct driver if you wish but am afraid I can't send you the whole Ghost disk. Legal stuff... you know.

I would be interested in obtaining the driver that worked for you.  We just got some D600s in and have also had difficulty with the Ghosting process.  Thanks!

gra-VT-

I'd like to talk more with you about this issue and perhaps get a copy of the driver from you.  Could you grab my address from my previous post and shoot me some email?

Many thanks for the assistance.
