Great Wireless Connection; No Internet

At home I get a great connection to my wireless router and a great conection to the internet, email, AIM, etc.  When I go to my college campus, I get a great wireless connection to their unsecured router, but I can't access the internet, my email, AIM, or anything else except what's on my computer.  HELP ... How can you have an excellent wireless connection without being able to access the internet?  What's wrong?

Although the network at the college is a non-secured network, this only means that it does not use WEP or WPA encryption.  It still may have security features enabled (like MAC Address Filtering) which would only allow wireless network cards to connect if they have been registered on the network.  This is the way the wireless network works at the university where I work.  Have you contacted the people in charge of the wireless network at your college to see what has to be done?

Yes ... I have been able to access it in other buildings, and as far as I know their network name is the same throughout (tsunami).  I believe they have it t hat way so that all the students can access the web and so on.  I have had this happen to me on occasion at other locations, even in my own home, where I get an excellent connection, but I can't get through to the site .... and I have confirmed my service is working, etc.  It's a strange phenomenon.

I have the same problem, so please don't mind if I use this thread...

I just got the Inspiron 6000 with all the bells and whistles for wireless networking. While I am setting up my own Ethernet service (2 weeks before they show up!), my neighbor has allowed me to piggyback onto his wireless router and has unsecured it.

I get a "very good" connection but can't seem to get on the internet at all, IE just times out.

What can I do, or have my neighbor do? he is able to use his laptop with full wireless connection and internet

Any help would be appreciated!

I am having a similar problem with my Inspiron 8600.  I have had it for a little over a year and was able to get onto wireless networks in the past and all worked fine.  Recently i have been trying to get on at my school and my work and i can find the networks, it says i am connected, but the internet wont work.  I have tried all kinds of things and nothing seems to work.
