gx1 nic driver

Hi everyone,

My problem is with an old gx1 that i just put NT on.  Now I cannot find my network card.  I am both unsure which card this pc uses and how to get it to work.  Is there a driver I can download?  Is there something else I just haven't done yet to enable the card?

any suggestions are much appreciated.  thanks.

Unfortunately, there are several possibilities. Here's Dell's list of  GX1 network drivers for NT.

You may be able to sort this out using the Belarc Advisor. The download's small enough to fit on a floppy.

that driver is newer and works in the GX1.

Windows NT by Default does not install PNP

You must install PNPISA.INF from the NT CD before it finds the NIC.
NT does not install this by default.

Once you put service pack 5 or 6 on the machine it will recognize the 3C918 onboard Nic as a 3c905TX Compatable Nic.

SYMPTOMS
When you install Windows NT 4.0, Plug and Play devices in your computer are not detected and installed.

CAUSE
Windows NT 4.0 does not support Plug and Play.
RESOLUTION

The driver library on the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM includes the PnP ISA Enabler driver, which may allow the detection and installation of Plug and Play devices in Windows NT 4.0. Install the PnP ISA Enabler driver (PNPISA) using the following steps:

NOTE: Although Windows NT includes PNPISA to detect Plug and Play devices, Plug and Play devices are not supported in Windows NT 4.0. PNPISA is provided as a "use at your own risk" tool.

Locate the Pnpisa.inf file in the Drvlib\Pnpisa\ folder on the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM.
Right-click the Pnpisa.inf file, and then click Install on the menu that appears.

Restart your computer.

After you restart your computer, you may receive a message that Windows NT has detected your Plug and Play device(s).
