GX270, RIS, PXE Boot "driver not found"
I created my RIS image by booting one of the factory systems, installing my 2 pieces of software, and cleaning up the "default user" profile with some of our particular settings. I then ran RIPREP on that workstation, let it shut down, and rebooted it and filled out all the info in that system's mini-setup.
Then I took one of my 69 other GX270s, and booted it using the bios PXE. When setup actually begins (ntldr loads), I get a "no drivers can be found" error.
I printed up the stickied instructions above, saving the newest version of the drivers to imagename\i386\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\Nic\<8 files from inside the WinXP directory inside R66787.exe>
I took the setupldr.exe from WinXP SP2RC2 (SP1 comes with 2600.1106, NOT 2600.28, I downloaded it last night) which is version 5.1.2600.2108.
I restarted binlsvc after making those changes, and before running the setup.
What am I missing to make this work?
(virtual PC and a laptop both imaged WinXP from the "original" cd-based image, so I know RIS works)
I get the exact same error when I choose the Win XP CD-based image, and when I add the files from the WinXP directory of R66787.exe directly to the i386 directory of the CD-based image.
Thanks in advance.
Rob

imagename\i386\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\Nic\ is used on Win2k RIS. imagename\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\Nic\ is used on Windows 2003 ($OEM$ is at the same level as i386, not a subdirectory of it.
Also, I had this same dumb ntldr problem on my Win2003 RIS server installing WinXPsp1a images. I changed the [Intel] line in the driver inf like the pinned post said, but this mysterious NTLDR version 5.1.2600.28 is not necessary. Just changing the entry in the driver inf and restarting the binlsvc worked.
I spent 14 hours trying to figure this out. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGG.

Hi,
I tried every option found on the web to get my OptiPlex GX270's installed using RIS on server 2003. No option resolves my problem, it keeps moaning about the network drivers, no matter what I do.
I've tried the following solutions:
Place the altered .inf file in the $oem$ directory
Downloaded the .inf file from intel and tried that one
Tried creating a image including the altered file's
Nothing seems to help. I tested the RIS server creating an Image file on a IBM Netvista A40 using a Intel Pro 100 card. Rebooted the same system and it installed the image right away!
Anyone a tip to try?
Thanks,
N@rd

OH MY GOSH PLEASE HELP.
I have a little different angle. Here is my scenario...I have Optiplex 250, 260, and 270's. I have built an image for the 260 computer, run the riprep and it is on the server.
Now for a new 260 client, I PXE boot, get the F12 prompt, get the Client Install Wizard and login with no problem. I can see all available images, I select the one I want and hit enter. I get the warning screen that Im about to blow away the drive and hit enter.
Next screen comes up with:
Waiting for Reboot
Reboot Failed. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot.
It never pulls the image. I have read all of the posts concerning the NIC drivers for these machines and have followed all of the directions. Created the $oem$ directory, edited the .inf file, etc...
Can anyone please help!!!
