having problem installing ethernet controller

Hi All,

I reinstalled WinXP on my Dimension computer and now it says that my ethernet controller doesn't have a driver installed. I installed the chipset installer software before I installed the Broadcom 4401 10/100 Integrated Controller. I downloaded a driver from Broadcom, but when I try to update the driver (for the ethernet controller), it doesn't recognize the driver, so I'm guessing I must have the wrong driver or something. (I actually tried several different drivers.)

My questions are:
1. What driver should I be installing?
2. How should I be installing the driver?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
choo_chu

Is your Dimension also 2350
In each instance, what IS the model of the adapter?

Hi,

My computer is a Dimension 2400.   In my device manager it has "Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller" listed under network adapter.

Hellow,
Hye i saw that you are facing problem while installing the Ethernet drivers...Right?
So I'm here to help you out....
Just Follow the following steps....and if this works then just let me know on my e-mail vinod.joshi1@gmail.com

1. Insert the Resource Cd.
2. You will come to a screen which says "Well Come Dell Dimension XXXX user"
3. On the left hand side you have to selct the proper 'System Model', Operating System, and under the topic header select "ALL"
4. Now just move to your right hand side of the screen.
5. Select the Ethernet Controller (Note: there will be a check mark in front of that)
6. Double Click on it.
7. It will Unzip the files and will give the message "All the files were successfully unzipped"
But the real problem start from here.
8. After that it will give you something like "C:\DELL\DRIVERS\RXXXXX"....Just note down this path.
9. Now close Everything and then follow these steps
        ---Go to Start
         ---Click on My Computer
        ---Click on Local Disk C:
---Search for the folder named DELL and double click on it.
---After that Just serach for the folder named DRIVERS and double click on it.
---Now under that you have to search for the folder named RXXXX (where XXXX might be numbers) and double click on it.
---Under that folder search for the folder which says WIN XP. and under that serach for the file name "SETUP.EXE"
AND double click on it....
It will install all your Ethernet Controller Drivers

There is no "setup.exe" file in the WinXP folder. The entire path I looked in is "C:\dell\drivers\R64645\WinXP". There are 3 files, all of which are named "bcm4sbxp"...one is a security catalog, one is setup information, and the other is a system file.

Thanks,

You Just have to Place the Drivers CD and then Just Double Click on the Ethernet Controller or Network adapter Option, it might have a check mark in front of it...Just go ahead with the same steps..Then you will recieve a message "All the files were successfully installed." After that close every window and then look up for the SETUP.EXE file.

Then Run the file...There should be a SETUP.exe file if you still didn't find that file then just download the drivers from www.support.dell.com.

is the starting point

Type the Service Tag and description (yours) there and it should bring up all possible drivers for that system.
