having to restart 'wireless zero configuration' every time

Hello, I've just recently wiped my drive and reinstalled using my install discs.  Everything appears to be working fine, except now, every time I put my computer to sleep or restart it, I have to restart the 'wireless zero configuration' service.  Otherwise I don't get the "Wireless Networks" tab under Wireless Network Connection Properties.  Once the service is started, I have to go to that tab and click on "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

Before I wiped the drive, I didn't have to do this.  Any idea how I can make it so my computer always has these settings enabled?  The "Wireless Zero Configuration" is set to start as "Automatic", but so far, that doesn't appear to ever start automatically.

I don't know why that would happen, but ...

When you reinstalled the OS, did you install the chipset drivers (first)? I don't know your system, but that is necessary on mine (Inspiron 8200).

Don't know if that would interfere with the WZC service either.

The system is:

Inspiron XPS (gen 1)
2 GB RAM
MR 9800
TruMobile 1300 Wireless
TruMobile 300 Bluetooth
Windows XP Professional all updates current.

After wiping the drive, I installed windows xp and continued running the windows update until every last update was installed.  Then I installed all the Dell drivers, including drivers for both TruMobile cards.  All the dell drivers were current as of 8/27/05 as that is when I downloaded them from the support site.  I've no idea why it's doing this, it's frightfully annoying.

I'd really appreciate some help if anybody has heard or has an idea about solving this issue.

If you have not already done so, have you tried turning off your Bluetooth card to see if it makes any difference.

I seem to recall that there is a setting in the 300 Bluetooth property options to enable wireless compatibility or some words to that effect.

The WZC service depends on:
1: NDIS usemode I/O protocol
2: Remote Procedure Call

It is unlikely that Remote Procedure Call is not running. So I would suspect corrupted drivers for the wireless device.

Have you tried uninstalling the device, rebooting and installing a clean version of the drivers?

Alright, I feel like an idiot for finding this, but maybe so should everybody else;)

There is a control panel called "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility".  If I turn off "use this tool to manage your wireless settings", everything loads and works fine.  It was just a settings thing;)
