help me please---unmountable boot volume

i have a message which appears on a blue stop screen that says unmountable boot volume. It directs me to press F8 to access safe mode (under advanced options). The computer restarts - but jumps right back to the blue screen. I dont care about losing data - how do i delete windows xp off my computer, in order to reload it from scratch- and fix this boot problem?

you could try to boot from the operating system CD and when it comes up to the install page choose r for rebuild or repair the operating system. this is the non destructive install setting. otherwise you are running a full install that removes all info and reinstalls,

you could try the recovery console from the WINXP cd then type r at the setup screen. at the prompt type this: CHKDSK /R, then enter. This would take a around 10-30mins. after this type: FIXBOOT, then enter. it would prompt "Are you sure?" type: Y. after type EXIT, then press enter.

I have this same problem, I put in the cd, but it doesnt ever go to a start up page or an install page
just the black screen to ask which start up mode, and then the blue unmountable boot volume page every time

this would indicate that it is trying to start from the hard drive and not the cd rom. you need to enter the bios and set the boot order to cd first. then reboot. it will ask you to press a key to boot from cd. then let it go to the install screen and press r for repair.

I posted that other message a while ago and followed the instructions and fixed the problem. However, recently my computer was running very slow, and the the blue screen that was there before flashed and then the computer restarted it itself. I have since tried to use the disc and run the repair like i did last time, but it never completes the repair, and freezes at 57% completed.

Any help??
is there any way I can save the files on my computer
or do I just have to reinstall windows XP??
