help my wireless network
Help! I'm trying to get my wireless network to work but can't. I have a Dell 2400 XP that is the base of the network. I have a router and wireless access point (belkin). The other computer is a Presario with ME and using a Lynksis wireless B network adaptor. Using the wireless setup wizard, I can access the internet no problem on either computer (dial up) but can't see either computer in the network. Everything is checked as shared on both computers but I still can't see the other. The first time I installed it last summer, I was able to see the other but two days later it didn't work. What simple setting am I missing??????

Have you either disabled the Windows XP firewall (if you have SP1), placed file and printer sharing in the exceptions list of the Windows XP firewall (if you have SP2), or configured any third party firewalls to allow local network connections?

The main reasons that Windows XP and Windows 98/ME networks have trouble are due to the following:
1. Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and have unique names on the network
2. Make sure all firewalls are disabled while setting things up. In particular make sure that Windows XP's built-in firewall is disabled on the local area connection (SP1) or File and Printer Sharing is checked off in the Exceptions list (SP2).
3. Make sure the NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
4. Make sure the drives and folders have been designated as shared.
5. If the Windows 98/ME computers have Client for Microsoft Networks as the primary network logon, make sure that the proper username and password are entered when these machines boot. If Windows logon is the primary network logon, make sure that either a null password is used or that the correct password is used when booting these computers. Hitting the cancel button at the password prompt may prevent network connectivity.

Thanks Steve. I now can see both computers. Now I need to set up my A920 printer on the compaq. I am now downloading the driver for 2000. Is that the same as ME? Thanks for all the help

Windows ME and Windows 2000 are completely different versions of Windows, Drivers designed for 2000 will not likely work for ME and visa versa.
