I just realized you may be talking about something very different.
To me "file sharing" implies a local network (workgroup) and you start by running a network setup Wizard and both (all) computers involved.
However,
are you talking about kaaza (something comparable)?
If so, I have not knowledge or experience.

Ok
Do you have a wireless router?
Do you have an Ethernet hub (such as 4-port)?
Will the notebook connect with Ethernet to a hub?
If none of the above, you with need a special cable called a "CrossOver" Ethernet (although I understand some new systems can use a "normal" standard Ethernet to connect two systems directly through the RJ-46 Ethernet ports.

On each computer, run the Network setup Wizard and give just one name the the 'Workgroup' (I suggest you NOT use WORKGROUP or MSHOME).
Make sure the computer name is unique (such as "PC1" and "Notebook2")
Since I have written instructions several times, spend some time reading Dell Talk and you will see the remainder of my instructions for file sharing setup. Over and out.
