Help!!! Windows cannot configure this wireless connection

Question

I have a Inspiration 6000 for less than a year. Never called Dell and now Dell says my warranty expires. So I have to come here. I was annoyed by the wireless icon kept searching so I stopped it and don't remember how I did it. Now I want it back but it has this message 'Windows cannot configure this wireless connection'. I cannot even disable it. The device manager shows it is enabled. How do I configure to make it work? (more detailed the better) Thanks in advance.

Which wireless network adapter do you have?  If it is the Intel adapter, open the Intel Proset Utility and uncheck the box that let's that utility manage the wireless network.  If it is the Dell adapter, open the Dell Wireless Utility and uncheck the box to let that utility manage the wireless network.   Steve

Hi,   Right click on my computer icon and left click on properties, click on hardware, click on device manager, On the device manager screen click on the + sign next to network adaptors'. and then see which wireless card is installed in the computer( ex: dell wireless or intel proset).   IF Dell wireless: Then get to start> all programs> look for dell wireless> dell wireless WLAN card utility, under the first tab- uncheck the option, let this tool manage your wirless nw, then click apply n OK which is on the bottom of this window, then get to the windows screen n click on refresh nw list- connect to the nw.   IF intel proset wireless utility   Then get to start>all programs>intel proset >intel proset wireless utility> click on advanced n click on option' use microsoft(windows)'. , then get to the windows screen n click on refresh nw list- connect to the nw. if you see the message 'windows cannot configure this wireless connection' then i believe you are using the windows wireless manager (WZC) to manage your wireless connections.

as per the previous suggestions check if you have the Dell utility or Intel Proset. if you do then disable it. then go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections and right-click on the 'wireless network connection' icon and click on Properties. go to the wireless networks tab and check the option 'use windows to configure my wireless network settings' and click OK. then right-click wireless network conn icon again and click View available wireless networks. if there are any wireless networks in range then they should show up. if you still get the same message, click Start -> Run. type services.msc. in the list of services that comes up scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and start the service

**Note: if the issue gets resolved by the above steps but if you haven't disabled either Intel Proset or Dell utility, you may face the same issue again after rebooting the computer
