help - wireless router
If anyone can help. I am trying to put in a new router (which I think works since I can connect to the internet if I hardwire), but unfortunately when I choose my wireless network and go to connect, it simply goes back to Automatic and does not connect me. When I was told to run ipconfig, it said my media state was diconnected. Any idea what to do? Thanks in advance.

It is always most helpful if you tell us which model computer you have and which version of Windows you have. Without that information, we are often just making wild guesses. It would also be helpful to know which model wireless network adapter is installed in the machine.
Is the wireless adapter turned on? On some models, the Fn F2 key combination toggles the wireless radio on and off. On other models, there is a switch on the side or front of the computer that turns the wireless adapter on and off.
If you right click the wireless network icon in Network Connections, does it give an option to Enable the wireless card? If so, click on that option.
Is your router set up to use any kind of security (i.e. is WEP or WPA encryption enabled)? Is MAC address filtering enabled? Is the router set to hide the SSID of the router? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, disable that feature until you get the wireless network to work, then go back in and enable the features you want, one at a time, making sure everything still works after each change.

Eliminate any other wireless device running at 2.4 GHz (Cordless phones, etc).
Try changing channel number on the router.
Try disabling any speed or range enhancement features on the router.
