Help with connecting Truemoile 2300

Hi, I'm a newbie here and am despirate for help.  I'm trying to connect the 2300 to my computer so my daughter can access the internet through her laptop.
  • I tried the CD that came with the router but it tells me it cannot find the router.
  • I followed instructions to configure the router where I'm instructed to click start-->run, type in http://192.168.2.1, which is supposed to take me to a configuration screen, but it doesn't.  It takes me to a screen that shows this:

 Wizard Setup               Advanced Setup                         Maintenance
  Wizard Setup              Password                                 System Status
                                    LAN                                         DHCP Tabe
                                    WAN                                        Diagnostic
                                     NAT                                         Firmware and Fatory Reset
                                     Security
                                     Dynamic DNS
                                     Time and Date
                                     Remote Management
                                      UPnP System status

I called my ISP (I have DSL) and they told me I needed to call Dell (ugh) and tell them I need to set the router for DHCP mode, or buy a new router, which I DON'T want to do.  I'd really rather not call Dell.  Does anyone know if this is the problem, and if so how do I do this?

I would appreciate any help.  I've been working on this for over a month and am very frustrated.

Thanks so much
~~Shelley

The manual for your router is at:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/network/p57205/en/index.htm

You might want to read it.

Thanks for the link to the manual.  I read through it, although it wasn't very helpful.  Under the section: Configuring Your Router for the Existing Network (which I assume is what I have), it says I "MUST turn off the DHCP server on my router if there is a DHCP server running to avoid IP address conflict."  Again, I'm totally confused since my ISP told me to tell Dell I need to set the router for DHCP mode.

But, I went ahead with the instructions to see if it would guide me through this process.  I typed in http://192.168.2.1 in my web browser. There I'm supposed to click on the "basic settings" tab, but I don't get a basic settings tab, just that same table I typed in my first message.

I did reset the router (holding in the reset button for a second) and did those steps again.  I also tried the CD again. Same problem, it can't find the router.

Now I know this can't be all that difficult.  I have to be doing something wrong, missing something.  I don't know.  All I want is the easy steps to set this thing up.

If you use the reset button on the back of the router by holding it in for about 10 seconds, all settings will return to their default settings.  DHCP will be one, all wireless security will be off, and you will just need to configure the router to make the dsl connection.  Once the dsl configuration is done, the default settings should let any computer connect to the internet by wired or wireless.

Do you have everything hooked up correctly?  Ethernet cable from the dsl modem to the Internet port on the Router, ethernet cable from an ethernent port on a computer to one of the LAN ports on the router?  From a computer connected to the router in this way, if you open a web browser and type http://192.168.2.1 into the address bar, do you get the login screen to log on to the router?  If so, type admin in the username box and admin into the password box and you should then be able to click on Basic Settings, then on Internet connection settings and choose how your dsl connection is to be made.  Since I am not your ISP, I cannot tell you how the dsl settings should be configured.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your help.  Pushing the reset button helped tremendously.  The good news is I got further in the process than I ever did before :smileyhappy:; the bad news is, it still isn't connecting.  :smileymad:
I'm still getting an error that the router can't find the connection to the internet.  By all the reading I've done, at least I know what order to do the steps in.  I need to install the software and then use the web-based configuration.  The only problem with that is that it can't complete the software install, so I can't go to step 2.
Don't the dsl settings automatically get detected by the router, or is there some point that I do need to call them?
Well, it's real late now and I'm just tired of all this fun!  lol  I'll get back to work on it tomorrow, or whenever.  I'm pretty busy tomorrow but I'll try it again.
Thanks again for your help.  If you think of anything else I might be missing or screwing up, please let me know.

Each dsl service is different, so I can't answer your questin about what needs to be done.  As far as the software is concerned, it is totally unnecessary, and, in fact the software for the 2300 has a serious bug where it looks for the router at the wrong IP address and therefore never finds it.   So, forget the software.  Everything that the software would do, if it worked, can be done from the web based configuration utility.

HI,

The issue you seem to be having i guess is 2 devices (DSL modem and wireless router both running DHCP) having the same IP address. (192.168.2.1). First connect the cables. from the DSL modem to the internet port on the router. then any computer hardwired to any one of the LAN ports on the router. Reset the router. Keep the DSL modem powered off. Now on the computer thats hardwired to the 2300 router. Open IE and type 192.168.2.1  It should take u to the screen to login. USERNAME as admin and PASSWORD as admin.  Then go to advanced settings. Go to advanced IP setting and changed the IP address from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.10.1  Click submit. You will get a message saying page cannot be displayed. now power off the router and the hardwired computer. wait for 4-5 mins. power the DSL modem on first. Wait for 4-5 mins. Then power the router on. wait for 4-5 mins and finnaly power the computer on. Internet should work thru the router.

OR the other option is speak to ISP and get the MODEM changed to bridge mode. (for PPOE)

I enjoyed reading this very much -- and no Harvard plagerism involved, I suspect.
