help with network connection

I am currently operating 2 dell dimesions thru a linksys router - all is well with one dimension (the older one) but the brand new one(a month old) - and had to install a new hard drive - then re-install all the drivers etc (not knowing what i was doing) - had to do it thru dell chat -

I can get on the internet (via internet explorer or firefox) but cannot go to any secure sites (example support.dell.com - and login) nor can I checkout (purchase).

I have done numerous things - the error message i receive tells me to check my internet & network settings. I have turned off windows firewall - (because the router has a firewall). When I run hardware diagnostics on the intel - everything passes BUT when I run net diagnostics from system information i receive two failures: 1> Network Adapter Intel Pro/100 netowrk connection failed 2> IP address= 192.168.1.101 failed.

Any ideas.

See if the following Microsoft article helps:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813444

If that doesn't help, to help troubleshoot this problem, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Write down the output from this command or select it and save it to a txt file, then copy this output into a reply to this message.

additional information....

In my control panel i do not have an icon = Intel Proset....

could this have anything to do with it. I am not 100% sure that all the necessary drivers etc are properly installed on my system - since I had to reinstall everything myself after the new harddrive was installed.

Try going into the network properties for your network adapter and removing the Toredo Tunneling Interface.  It is not required and I have seen more than one case where this was causing a problem.

Steve,

I cannot tell you how much i appreciate the information - I have been so frustrated with the support (or lack there of) that i have received from dell - since the new hard drive has been installed - I just now tried to go to the network properties and the system locked up and had to reboot - i will let you know.

I am sorry, but I cannot find that information.... can you help me locate the Toredo Tunneling interfaces?

Thanks in advance!

Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections.  Select your network connection, then right click and choose Properties from the drop-down menu.  In the list of installed items, find the Toredo Tunneling protocol, select it and click on the Uninstall button.
