Help with NIC needed

I was recently given a Precision WorkStation 670 to use as a server on my network.  After trying and failing to install Windows Server 2003 (hooray for missing files), i used a Dell OS re-instalation CD to9 return to XP Pro.  The process was seamingly smooth, however, now the NIC doesn't work.  When I look in the network connectionns, it shows an active connection (1394 or something), but I can't connect to either the internet nor my workgroup.  the device manager shows "ethernet controler" under other.  The  properties window says that no drivers are installed.  Any suggestions?

Yeah, you need the Intel Pro/1000 drivers installed.  You should be able to get them here, if the link works:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R79597&SystemID=WRK_PNT_P4_670&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=5604&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=5&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=5&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&fileid=104334

If the link doesn't work, just go to Dell's support website and type in your service tag.  Once you've downloaded the file, double click on it to extract the installation program (note where you unzip the program to) and then run setup.exe

They usually install just fine.  Reboot and you'll be good to go.
