HELP!!!!

I just installed a Belkin F5D5000 network adaptor card into my 2001 Dell Dimension 8100 Desktop and I can't access the internet.  I'm not that computer savvy so any help would be appreciated.  Here's what I've done so far:   Installed the Network card into the computer - Easy Windows ME recognized the new hardware and installed the driver - Easy Clicked on System - Device Manager to locate new network adapter and yellow exclamation point was showing up - updated driver to Realtek (can't remember number) but it removed exclamation point. - not too hard Followed Belkin instructions to configure internet connection for Cable (ethernet connection - no modem) - problem   Here's what they say:   Select the 'F5D5000, PCI Card/Desktop Network PCI Card' item from the 'Network' dialog box, then click the 'Properties' button.          1) Click the 'Advanced' button in the 'F5D5000, PCI Card/Desktop Network            PCI Card Properties' dialog box.          2) Select the Link Speed value (Auto Mode,10 Half Mode,10 Full Mode, 100 Half 10 Full            Mode) for the 'Value' item, this is not available under the F5D5000 driver but is            available under the Realtek driver. Then click OK button in the 'F5D5000,PCI Card/Desktop                Network PCI Card Properties' dialog box.  Click the OK button in the 'Network' dialog box.               3) Restart your computer to realize the new configuration.   The problem I have with this is that nothing able to be selected for 32 bit PCI card or 16-bit PCI card under the first tab, the second tab which is supposed to show a TCP/IP connection, shows nothing and the third tab 'Advanced' shows limited information.  Even when I follow their instructions, I can't access the internet.     Their next suggestion is clicking on the networks button in control panel, selecting the TCP/IP Realtek or F5D5000 Ethernet Adapter.  I don't have this option.  When I discussed this with my ISP provider, they told me to run winipcfg to find the IP address and the only thing showing up is the PPP adaptor whatever that is.  My card is not showing up at all.    I've tried contacting Belkin and I can only sit on hold for so long (1.5 hours) without any human contact.    I have only a few more tries left in me before I set my machine on fire.  Please can someone help me.

Open Device Managerand click the + sign next to Network Adapters.  What shows up there?   Next, open Network Connections.  What network connections show up there? It's been a few years since I used Windows ME and I no longer have any computers that are running that version of Windows, so I don't really remember the details of getting to Device Manager and Network Connections, but you should be able to figure it out.
