Help!!!AOL does not recognize modems

I just reloaded the XP Home OS for my dimesion 2400, also reloaded my V.9X 6K Data/Fax modem and my Toshiba PCX1100U. Modem tests show that both are working but when I try to log on to aol, aol does not recognize either modem. Did I miss something during the re-installs? just about pulled all my hair out trying to figure this one out. Im on a friends pc, going back and forth trying to fix.

Did you reload your chipset drivers? They should be loaded first after the re-install.

apologize for taking so long to reply, still on friends pc. I loaded the chipset that was assocoated with my service tag number. and they show up on the device manager. still will not recognize the modems. Instead I have hooked my old Demension back up and now I am back on line using windows 98 system. Im thinking about taking the pc to a guru and see if they can help. Do you think I should try another re-install? signed "at my wits end"

Many times to correct this type of problem you can go into Device Manager, right click on the specific modem you're using, click on uninstall, restart your computer and WinXP will recognize and reload the modem on startup.
