help,wanted fax modem help!!!

Hi, I have a really slow internet connection, and i have a few relatives that have fax modems in their computers, this, making their web browsing faster.  I was thinking on buying a fax modem but it has been a bit difficult due to my low knowledge on fax modems, i have a few questions and hopefully some will get answered.  I have a Dimension 4600 and i use bellsouth dial internet service and i need to know the difference between a USB and PCI modem and i also need to know which is best reccomended for someone that has no well experience on the inside technology of a computer, another brief question is if the fax modem necessarily have to be from dell in order to be installed and used, and my final question is will a fax modem be compatible enough with my ISP(which is Bellsouth).  Thankyou and PLEASE answer my questions (if you know them)

You already have a FAX modem. Your modem is either Data/FAX or Data/FAX/Voice.

When you are on the internet, you are using the Data function of the modem. When you are sending or receiving a FAX, that would be using the modems FAX function. If your modem supports Voice, then it can be used as an answering machine.

What initial connect rates are you getting?

USB = Universal Serial Bus. A USB modem would imply it is an external modem connected via a USB cable/port.

PCI = Peripheral Component Interconnect. This refers to a connector on the motherboard of your computer, so this a PCI modem would be one that mounts internally to the system.
