Help:yahoo dsl modem software & window vista incompatibility

Hi there,
I recently purchased the dell inspirion 1501 laptop and netgear WGR 614 wireless router.I have desktop with window xp and dsl yahoo with 2 wire modem.I followed the instruction to add this netgear router between the 2wire modem and the desk top. Finally I was able to get connection on this desktop with different connection settings from the netgear set up instructions. But I get no online connections in my laptop.I installed the yahoo dsl software and I got the message that window  vista does not meet the requirements because that is supposed to be one of window 95/98/2000 or xp.I called this tech support from att and yahoo dsl people but they couldnot help me  and rather charge me for fixing this error.
So I am kinda frustrated and I need to talk to dell people too but i don't have the product tag right now with me.Can anybody please give me some advice

I sincerely doubt that you need to install any software whatsoever to connect to the router.  The software may have been necessary to set up the router in the first place, but once set up, no software is required.   So long as you have a wireless network adapter that has drivers compatible with Windows Vista, that should be all that you need.  I have never seen Vista, so I can't provide details on how to connect to the wireless network, but if it is like XP, you should be able to open Network Connections, select your wireless connection, right click, select View Available Wireless Networks, find your router (as it is providing the wireless connection), select it, then click on the connect button.  Again it should be similar in Vista.  What happens when you do this?  If you can't connect, you may have to temporarily disable any security settings you may have enabled on your router.  You can do that by connecting to the router through an ethernet connection (presumably from your desktop).
