high cpu load from wltray.exe and bcmwltry.exe

Hi,

I've got an unusual issue. windows is showing a chronic high cpu load consumed by the processes wltray.exe and bcmwltry.exe. i understand that both of these are related to the wireless network connection. Between the two, they are taking up 18-22% of the cpu. Otherwise, everything is working fine, no problems with the net connection itself.

background info:
inspiron 1150
celeron 2.6ghz cpu
768mb of ram
dell wireless 1350 wlan mini-pci card
windows xp home sp2

What makes this particularly strange is that the problem does not show up on the original login created on the laptop, only new logins. For the one windows login without the problem, the processes in question only take up 2-3% cpu load insteaqd of 18-22% i've checked all the services and startup programs to see if anything makes these users different but no luck so far. anyone have any idea what user-related settings could cause the wireless components to eat up cpu load?

Try reinstalling the drivers and utility for the wireless network card. Steve

Open the Device Manager and then look for the wireless card under the Network adapter. Left click on the Dell 1350 and then delete it. Once you have completed this reboot the system. Tis should reslove the issue. I hope thai helps...

thanks for the good suggestions but it didnt help. i removed both the wireless and wired network devices, rebooted and reinstalled the latest version of each one but no help. there is still a 15% differential in cpu load consumed by these two processes when comparing all windows users versus the original one setup on the computer.

Is there really any reason to even load the wireless utility? The Windows wireless utility works quite well on most systems and with nearly all Dell wireless cards. Even with the utility loaded, you can still have Windows manage the wireless connection. If you do that, does the same problem occur?

thanks for the tip. i've switched to windows for wireless config and disabled the startup of wltray. the tasks still show up on the process list for both users but stay at 0 percent load for each.

according to the numbers from task manager process list i should have equal performance for both users but one of them still suffers from greatly reduced performance compared to the other. perhaps these two processes were not the cause but just a symptom of some other problem that is more general and affecting all running processes?

I agree that is probably a symptom of some other process that only runs on these other user accounts. Have these accounts been checked for viruses and spyware? Are there any diffences in programs running from startup on all of the accounts? It will take some detective work on your part to figure it out.
