Home Networking with cable internet
I am back seeking more help. The last person was wonderful getting my internet connection sharing (dial-up)working with a wireless router converted over to an access point.
Here is what we are going to be trying to figure out tomorrow, but would like to ask for help in advance. I am pretty sure I will need it --
I am getting high speed internet through our cable company installed tomorrow morning. According to the lady on the phone, they will only hook up one computer and make sure it sees the Internet but will not do any networking. She said that they use USB external modems. I explained that I have it hooked up with a router to share Internet into my sons room. Then she went on to say that they can hook it up through the router, or something like that.
As of now the router is working as an access point. I assigned it an IP address (not sure if I can remember how to get back in there to change it though). I have a Netgear wireless router (WGR614 v4). -- I used the network wizard to make a network setup disk for the client computer.
I am assuming that I will need to change my router back to what it was when I got it... removed the assigned IP address, but I am not sure what else I do to get it working on the client???? Do I use the network setup wizard for high-speed cable internet?
Any help would be appreciated.

Before trying to help with other problems, please confirm that the cable modem is not a USB only cable modem. If it is, and it cannot connect to your computer or router with an ethernet connection, you are going to have problems. You need a cable modem that can connect with ethernet.

First of YES do what he says, you dont want a usb modem,, doesnt make sence to me...
and Second you want to get rid of your route,( my opinion) and get a linksys router its easier to use, also alot better. its pretty much a plug and play. You dont really have to set anything up.

Cable guy hooked up both systems so that they can use the Internet through my router --- what a sweetie
.
But there still is one problem that I can't seem to get worked out. When I try and access some information that is shared it says that it is not accessible. When I check on my host computer in the Network Connections, it has Local Area Connection and 1394 Connection - and in the properties, file and print sharing is checked in both. But on the client computer there is no Network Neighborhood (Win ME) .... seems like he deleted my network I had set up... because I don't have the opition to open my network, etc.
I really want file and print sharing being as my hubby sometimes hogs the computer and I am set to use my sons.
Can anyone help my get this working again?
Thank you so much!
