Hooking up 1000 for Comcast Cable

I have called Comcast Cable, who runs my internet and have recieved no help as of yet. I am trying to hook my Comcast Cable, which I run on my DELL PC to my Inspiron 1000 Notebook. Does anyone know what I will need to purchase besides that Wireless PC Card, " Dell Wireless 1300 External Wireless PC Card (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps) "

any insight at all will be helpful. Also, if someone could direct me to a step-by step instructions on how to go about setting it up, I'd be forever thankful! Thanks!!

ksmithwick1,

You'll need a wireless access point or router. The cable modem will connect to the router, and receive its external IP address from the cable system. The wireless and wired PCs will connect to the "LAN" side of the router, and receive their internal IP addresses from the router.

Linksys and HomeNetHelp both have good educational sections explaining all this.

Ooooh and one other thing.

A few months ago, I purchaced a "Buffalo Air Station g54" for my old computer to get internet on there, but it never worked. It says that it is a Broadband Router, so do you think that will work with the PC Card im getting from Dell? Thanks!

Thanks, Jimw!

I will be sure to let you know how it works out!! Right now I'm having a horriable time dealing with Dell's Dell Preferred Account, so Itll be a while before I even get the laptop! :smileyvery-happy:

No, the device you bought is only a access point, not a router.

Sorry, I also have a smaller one:

The 2 are supposedly to hook up, but I never got an antenna for the big one, and I have to wait for the notebook before I can install it. Will this set me up with enough products to get wireless internet or will I need a whole 'nother product.

That one won't cut it either.

You need one with the word 'router' in it.

Yes, to use the internet via the Wireless card, but shouldn't I be able to connect the internet, but have the small g54 in the notebook's USB?
