Do you have a wireless router? At least initially with a wireless router, you have to connect by a wired connection to set up the wireless network. Once the wireless network is setup, you should be able to connect from anywhere within range of the wireless router. Please provide some more details of what you have done, which make and model wireless router you have, what kind of internet service you have (cable or dsl), which model Inspiron you have, and the model of the wireless network card in that computer?
I was finally able to figure it out. I just disconnected the wires and I was wireless. I wish that was a part of the final directions it seems to be an important bit of information to me. I thank you again.

So, can you connect by wireless? Without more details of what you have done and what your problem is now, it is really difficult to help.
