How do I set this up??

I need a little help here as I am going crazy. I have a dell latitude running XP SP2 with a trumobile 1150 mini pci wireless card inside. I have the most recent driver (7.86.15.638) and I am trying to set-up WPA encryption. I know that this is possible with the use of the Truemobile 1150 client manager 3.30, which i have downloaded and use to connect to my linksys router. I can configure the router to WPA, but I cant configure the 1150 client manager to give me the WPA option, only WEP!! I have tried everything and really need some help!!

Thanks a million

If one or the other is not capable of WPA, then both will have to run on WEP.

Are you using the Dell apliication or the Windows Application (Zero Configuration Utility) to configure the card?  Use the windows application.

That's the point though! The truemobile 1150 mini-pci was upgraded via a dell driver patch to support WPA... http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?cat=all&s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=truemobile+1150+wpa+mini&x=0&y=0

Both the driver and the client say that it will give WPA protection but i still cant seem to set it up even after updating both of them.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Ahhhh, I have figured out what I was missing!! There are actually three things that I needed....1)update mini-pci card drivers so that it can take advantage of WPA
2) update router to take advantage of WPA
3) what I was missing! Download the WPA2 update for Windows XP SP2 which is not an automatic download...you have to go and search for it within microsoft downloads.

I installed it and it now gives me the option of WPA and WPA-PSK, just have to try it.

I am currently at work, so i will repost to let you know if it works finally works.
Thanks a million for all your help jmwills!! Much appreciated

Cheers

Fortunately we are not (yet) doing WPA but should our school decide to go that direction, this is good information for which I am grateful.

well i finally got a chance to test it out and it works great! Love the new passwords...just type in the alphanumeric password that you chose...not the usual A9U71EU and so on...something i can actually remember.

Really hope this helps others in their endeavours regarding WPA, and thanks going to jmwills

cheers

I'm having the same problem. I want to be able to use WPA, but my computer only gives me the option of WEP. I'm running Windows  XP SP2 on a Latitude with TrueMobile 1150. I know that the computer with the wireless router handles WPA because the other laptop we use works that way (and doesn't do WEP, hence the problem). I'm not much of a computer person, so could you please tell me exactly what updates/downloads/changes I need to make?
