How to configure using static IP (for stability purposes)

Hi,

I got  a new TRENDnET TEW-647GA Ethernet to Wireless-N adapter to connect my kids PC to the new Wireless-N router I recently bought.

Long story but I had just re-installed XP and had some Ethernet Controller issues which I think I resolved (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19360572.aspx).  I have a Dimension 4550 running XP SP3.

I still lose the connection to the internet but since I was able to resolve it by simply power cycling the Ethernet to Wireless-N adapter, I'm thinking there's some instability with the adapter.  I've seen that others have used static IP addressing to resolve this.  My problem is, I have no idea what to configure to get this to work (I've tried several things, all to no avail).

I'm trying to figure out what I configure on:

1. The kids PC - in the TCP/IP properties???  DNS, gateway addr???

2. The adapter - which already has a static IP address which is used to log in to configure it

3. The router

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I have Comcast as well.

You cannot set up up static IP. You are assigned one from Comcast.

You need to read http://customer.comcast.com/Pages/FAQListViewer.aspx?topic=Internet&folder=4c941f9b-e6ab-494e-9856-427764b5b0c8

the Comcast webpage is very useful    http://customer.comcast.com/Pages/FAQListViewer.aspx?topic=Internet&folder=cbb3e25f-56bb-42fc-a949-967ce98c72fd

I actually found several other posts on several forums about similar issues with this router.

One suggestion was to change the channel to another that wasn't being used in the area - I still had the problem after that.

Someone suggested just using N-only, WPA2, AES.  I did this, as well as used the DHCP Reservation option for this PC.   The connection has been stable ever since!!  The problem is for me, I can't use N-only since I have a few devices that won't support N.  For those who can use N-only, this may work!
