How to edit home wireless network
I have a home network setup between my Dimension 4600 and my notebook computer. It has been working fine. I have Netgear router and the notebook is WiFi enabled. I would like to edit the name of the network and secure the network. I've tried to get into the network settings using Windows but I'm just not getting it.
How can I edit my home network.
Thanks.

BAD,
Most netgear routers have an IP address of 192.168.0.1. If you open Internet Explorer and put that into the address bar, it should give you access to the router configuration page. The login name is "admin" and the default password is "password". The default name for most netgear wireless networks is "NETGEAR". As noted by Volcano11, read the manual first. Securing your wireless network involves insuring that no one else can access your wireless network or have access to the data that goes from one system to another in your network.
Change the password. Write it down. Change the network name. Write it down. Do not let the router broadcast your network name. This will help keep folks from accessing your network. Secure your data by encrypting it with either WEP or WPA. As noted by Volcano11, READ the Manual. Write down any configuration changes that you make to your router and to your network. Your router manual should have places for you to put this information. If you need an online version of your manual, you can get it from www.netgear.com. For example, here is the manual for the MR814V2 router:
ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/FullManual_MR814v2.pdf
You can download the entire manual if you need to. You will need Acrobat Reader to view it, however.

It would be helpful to know which make and model router you have. Have you read the users manual that came with the router? Normally one uses a web browser and types in the IP address of the router to get into the configuration utility of the router where these settings can be changed.

BAD,
You are welcome. Remember to write down all of the router settings that you enter. You will appreciate it later.
