How to secure my wireless internet connection?

Hi everybody, I am new to wireless internet so I would be grateful to everyone who can help me on securing of my wirelless internet connection by ways of putting a password and how to do it exactly. My router is Netgear DG834G. Thanks very much in advance!

1st create the best login password you can for the router. Don't leave as admin and password !

2nd use the highest Wireless encryption you can - ideally WPA or WPA2 between your Wireless router and Laptop - or wireless device.

Then use the best key your router supports long and very random lots of characters advice on creating here : https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

I you have lost the router password, reset it to factory defaults. Manual should show how or the the suppliers website. Cheers LM
