You need to be able to get into the web browser of the router in order to setup security. You need to give the mfr and model of the router you have in order for someone to be able to help you.

It is impossible to totally secure a home wireless connection, but the best thing you can do (as described in the links above) is use WPA encryption with a strong password and MAC filtering. This will eliminate you from the low hanging fruit crowd.
