how to set up wireless netowork

I just purchased a new desktop and i wanted to hook up my internet for my old one and with my new one. I use Verizon DSL. I was wondering if all i had to purchase was a wireless router. Are there any necessary steps i should take and anything else i would need to buy? Which is probably the best wireless router for my connection? Can someone please help inform me.

First, make sure that your dsl modem can connect with ethernet.  If it is a USB only modem, you will have a difficult, if not imposssible, task finding a router that can connect by USB.  Nearly all wireless routers on the market these days allow the connection of up to 4 computers with wired ethernet and connection of many more computers by wireless.  It is always a good idea to connect at least one computer by a wired connection so that you can set up and troubleshoot the wireless connection if you have problems.  The computer that will connect by wireless will require a wireless network card.  If you don't already have a wireless network card, it is a good idea (but not a requirement) to get both the router and wireless network card from the same manufacturer.  Routers from Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, or Belkin should work just fine.

There are NIC cards on both of the pcs so they both use ethernet. A wireless network card isnt required right? Those are pretty pricy. I just want to maintain the same connection speed for both pcs with a good wireless router (priced at around 40-60). So all i need is a wireless router right? Do i need to set up some network pw or anyghing?

You need a wireless network card/adapter for every computer without one that you wish to go wireless.  NICs are for wired connections only.
