How to use a FTP server

Question

Ive been trying to transfer files threw a FTP server but i can never get it too work.. i think ive got all the things set to where a FTP server is allowed and here is what i type ftp://myipaddress:21/ an I enter that and it just comes up as it could not log in.. so what could i do?

On left side of homepage select Tools > on right side of web page you should see Your IP Address, IP whois > Click that > your IP Address should display (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) or something like that. Where ftp://myipaddress:21/ should type as ftp://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:21/ in address box. Is your internet access acquired thru a DSL/cable modem and router?or other?

i think there are only two rules to make to allow ftp allow inbound TCP port 21 allow outbound TCP port 20 21 21= ftp port 20= ftpdata if that helps great

As long as you use port forwarding for port 21 and direct it to the IP address of the machine in question, the answer is yes.
