HowDoI? put an external hard drive on a wireless network
I have two inspirons, kinsington usb universal port replicator, a 400gb external HD, and a wireless router (of course). Can't figure out how to gain access to the ext.HD from the other laptop. the kinsington has an ethernet connection and both computers have wi-fi. right now i have the external HD attached to the port replicator, and the port replicator is attached to my wifes laptop, I just wana share access to the external HD.
It would be nice if i could use the ethernet connection on the port replicator to access the attached ext.HD from both of my laptops wireless network. If someone could help me accomplish this task...that would be wonderful. If your one of those who would look at this and say, "geeze, i'd have to type a page or to just to get him started!" if you contact me i could give you a call if that would make it easier on you. Either way....here or on the phone....please help!!!!
Thanks,
Phillip

On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Suite, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic
