I have internet but no wireless network... Help.
While visiting my mother on vacation I found out that her router went missing... its gone... most likely stolen from the house. The last time I was here I bought her the router and a wireless adapter for her laptop. I followed the simple directions and had internet and a network between the desktop in the basement and the laptop upstairs. So after buying a new router (Linksys: model WRT54GS Wireless-G) I installed it as per the instructions.
The wireless adapter (Linksys: model WPC54G) found the router and maintains an internet connection. When I try to setup a network so the two computers can share files it says I don't have permission. I've checked the Shared properties and don't see anything remotely close to what I need.
I also tried to start from scratch by setting up another network using the "Set up wireless network" from the XP control pannel. I now have two network names but noting under the My Network Connections tab.
For some reason I remember this being easier. Any Help?

On any computer running Windows XP with SP1, disable the Windows XP firewall. It will not allow File and Printer Sharing. On computers running Windows XP with SP2, make sure that the Windows XP firewall has File and Printer Sharing checked off on the Exceptions tab. If you are running any third party firewalls, like those provided by such programs as Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, or McAfee Security Suite, make sure they are configured to allow local network traffic
