I need help with Domains please!!!

I accidently changed my laptop's Domain without thinking yesterday, and I cannot find a way to log in and fix the domain. (I do not even know the domain name). Is there any possible way I can either wipe the computer completely, figure out the old domain, or just get rid of the domain login screen on startup completely? The computer was given to me for doing work for a friend.

Please help me somebody!

ltk41,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You would have to be able to login as an adminstrator to change the domain name. Since you say you have no information on the domain name and cannot login into the system you are going to have to format and reinstall Windows.

Here are instructions to change a domain name.

  • Step 1

Log on to the PC computer with an account that has administrative privileges.

  • Step 2

Open the Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower left corner of the screen.

  • Step 3

Right-click on the "My Computer" icon and choose "Properties."

  • Step 4

Go to the "Computer Name" tab at the top of the properties window.

  • Step 5

Click on the "Change" button in the middle of the window.

  • Step 6

Select the "Domain" radio button and then enter the name of the domain you want to change the computer to in the text field below.

  • Step 7

Click on the "OK" button and then confirm your decision to change the computer's domain. In order for the domain changes to take effect, the computer must be restarted.

what if you don’t have an account with administrative privileges?
