I have the 1390 WLAN Mini card in my E1705.  It used to have this problem.

When I would wake it up or restart several times it would say IDENTIFYING NETWORK and just sit there.  Sometimes it would connect after 1 or 2 minutes, sometime I would have to turn off the WIFI and turn it back on to reset it.

I recently updated the Drivers from Dells page and now my wireless connects within 4 or 5 seconds after rebooting or awakening and I have not had the identifying network issue in several weeks.

This driver is not listed on the 1501 VISTA page, but it's listed on the E1705 VISTA page.

I checked and the Driver details state that it's applicable for the 1501 also.  You can try it to see if it helps you.  I know that I haven't seen the Identifying problem since I have updated.

Try it: R174292

That firmware didnt help

Can anyone tell me why I would be getting in the range of 1.8million packets recieved in a matter of 10minutes???

Could this be a failure of the 1390 card? I have no other problems with the computer, I have no problem connecting via ethernet.

The only thing I can think of as far as excessive packets would be something is connecting and running.

Have you checked for spyware or viruses or malware to ensure your system is clean.  It's possible you have  a Trojan that is downloading stuff.

And it's possible that this is why you are not getting connected.

Try downloading malwarebytes or superantispyware or anythign that will detect spyware and malware.

Good point,

If it were a malware or virus, you would think that it would be downloading no matter what type of connection.

Have you done the F12 at startup and tried a diagnostic on the card.  I am sure it will say it's fine, but try it and see if it finds anything.

I will try this on my next restart

I mean I know what I am doing and never get in a situation where I could get a virus, I reinstalled and run norton so it coulnt be that.
