The first thing I need you to do is go into a DOS window, and type in ipconfig, and see what that IP address is. if it's coming in as 000.000.000.000 then your not connecting. after that, I want you to go into your cable software, and see what it is stating. Best bet is to right click it and go into properties. After that, you should see an icon on your taskbar on the lower right corner of your screen by the time, right click it and see what IP address it is giving, then report those settings back here, then we will have something to work with.
DO NOT disable the firewall, as it allows traffic in from ports 80, 110, and 25 by default. The address if you are not connecting would be:
169.254.xxx.xxx
If you get that, try powering down the modem and PC and then power up the modem waiting a couple of minutes for negotiation and then the PC. If that fails, we might need to try and run WinSockfix for XP.

Are you running WinXP on your system? If you are, there is a windows firewall that you may need to disable, also...
