IE8 issue, some websites sporadically accepting text input

I think this may be just an IE8 issue.  Some websites, FB and a couple of others only pickup keyboard input after hitting the keys three of four times.  This basically makes it too difficult to use.  Might this be an IE8 issue or a virus?  I am having no trouble at all typing this post, BTW.

This is a DELL Latitude E6400 with Windows XP Professional SP3.  I have gone through cleaning out the cookies, temp internet files, etc. to no avail.
