IE8

I noticed that IE6 comes on most of the Dell netbooks running Windows XP.

I have an Inspiron Mini 10 with 160 gig hard drive.  Is there any reason not to use the new IE8?

bennie7,

I used to have IE6 on my XP SP3 machine and it worked great. IE7 disabled some of my programs, so I kept it with IE6.

I have a Vista machine with IE7. I tried IE8 and found that it slowed my machine down and went back to IE7. Some wireless cards and connections were also being a problem with IE8 where they could not conect and after un-installling IE8 or using system restore, they could conect, again.

Some people have found IE8 to be faster, your choice. Try it and if you have issues, then un-install it or use system restore.

bennie7,

Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help provide assistance to folks about their Internet Explorer.

Here is some more info if you're interested in learning more about IE8. The Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_b and IEBlog: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/ will provide you with some great information about IE8 and its new features and security improvements. If you decide, you can download it at the first site as well.
If you do experience IE8 running slow as Rick mentioned, you can try a reinstall or try managing your add-ons  –  this has helped lot s of people experiencing similar issues.
Hope this helps!

Hi Feran,

Thank you for your response.  I had to remove IE8 from three Dell machines because once installed, I could not open my pro tools program.  I put together

a nationally syndicated radio show and when I removed IE8, Pro Tools started working.  I wrote Microsoft and Degi Design and got no response.  I would love to use

IE 8, but I can't use Pro Tools as long as it's on the computer.  I hope someone can help me out with the problem.

Also, I'd would like to find out from someone at Dell why IE6 comes installed on the new Netbooks instead of IE7 or IE8.

bennie7,

For what it's worth, I used to have a Dell Inspiron B130 with XP Home Edition. I had it updated with all Microsoft Updates(Recommended) except IE7. So basically I had Windows XP SP3 without IE7. I tried IE7 and it disabled programs like, Motorola Phone Tools, HP Photosmart camera software, Trend Micro's scanner program, just to name a few.

When I un-installed IE7, all these programs worked like they were supposed to. Coincidence or NOT? There is something in IE7 that disabled these programs from working.

I even just gave Feran another chance and I just installed IE8 on my Studio 1737 with Vista Home Premium. It slowed my internet browsing down so slow, I had to remove it, again. I now have IE7 installed but I use Mozilla Firefox for most of my browsing. IE8 slowed Mozilla Firefox, too. ALL add-ons were disabled except the really needed ones and it was very slow. IE8 has also caused connection problems with wireless cards but it also conflicts with some software made by Microsoft, please read this thread to understand what IE8 is doing.

I hoped that Microsoft removed all the problems with IE8 but I can see that it still can be an issue for many. There are many forums where people are having issues with IE8. Are we the beta testers?
