inspiron 1100 modem???

I had to reformat my hard drive, and reload the windows xp - but my desktop is half the size of the display screen and to download other drivers I need to get online.  The modem is not detected and I looked at the specs online and could not find the type of modem I have.  Can anyone help me?  I need to download drivers, I guess, but don't know what type of modem to identify from the possible list.  thanks

Hi,

The modem is under a door on the bottom of the computer. The door on the edge, 2 screws. If you have a look, you should be able to see the brand. It could be one of many. There is normally a lable on the base with the brand. If you have a resource CD, it will find the right driver.

and other(s)
By now I have had to replace many hard drives and have learned through these experiences (all Dell systems) that it is crucial to install first the "ChipSet" driver(s). After that I usually install audio, then Ethernet (communications) and, last of all, the video driver(s). Have you (both) followed this sequence after finishing installation of Windows on new hard drive? Also, as early as possible I get the anti-virus installed and working (up to date) and then also make sure I run all Windows updates, express and custom. This takes several iterations. Without all this, I consider a system vulnerable in the extreme.
