Inspiron 1501 Internet Problem

Question

Alright, so since my sister doesn't know anything about her laptop, and I'm just tired of hearing her complaining, I decided to get her Inspiron 1501 connected to the net.   I know I can do it b/c I did it with my cousins last christmas, so I thought it wouldn't be too different.   Well I have a wireless network setup through my desktop that goes to my Xbox 360, and it works fine wirelessly. However, when I go to connect the laptop to my homes access point, it says its connected successfully and that I can start browsing the internet.   Well whenever I TRY to browse the web, the pages load incredibly slow, most of the time, they don't load at all.   It says the signal strength is excellent and that Im connected to the Internet, but its as if its not. Any help? Message Edited by o DraXXus o on 01-12-2008 10:11 PM

Please explain exactly how your network is set up (i.e. exaclty what is connected to what).  I don't understand the following statement:   'I have a wireless network setup through my desktop that goes to my Xbox 360, and it works fine wirelessly'   Steve

Alright. Basically I have a cable modem and a Linksys router. The cable modem is connected to the router via th RJ45 cable that came with the modem and the router is connected to the computers ethernet port via the blue network cable that came with the router. Thats pretty much how I have it setup. Im just confused as to why the laptop can't connect to the internet even though it says it can browse the web.

First, are you sure you are connecting wireless through your router and not some other router in the area?    If you boot the computer into Safe Mode with Network Support does the same problem occur?   Steve
