Inspiron 1525 cannot see wireless network
Hi.
I recently bought an inspiron 1525 laptop and I have an issue with our home wireless network. The laptop simply can't see it, although it can see all my neighbors networks fine.
I have a desktop PC that connects to the wirless network fine, which is how I'm making this thread. Both machines XP Pro. For the laptop however the network is not even an option to select to connect to when searching for available networks.
The wireless router does not have 'hide ssid' enabled. It has access point enabled. It does not lock out MAC addresses. It uses WPA-PSK authentication
The router is a DLINK DSL-G604T. Could it be a router problem? I've had people come over before with their dell (not inspiron 1525) lappys and they could connect to the network (and obviously see it) however my one can't.
Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather not mess around with router firmware as it is not my property. Thanks.

So a fact summary
- Windows XP boxes (sp2)
- Desktop uses USB dongle, connects fine.
- Lappy uses built in, cannot see my network but can see neighbors.
- When using USB dongle in lappy, no networks are seen (adapter is functioning however).
- Network is 802.11g, WPA-PSK authentication.
- Manually adding the network gave no results.
Cheers.

Which version of Windows? Have you tried manually adding your network?

Have you tried power cycling the router (turn it off and turn it on)?

Is Windows managing your wireless connection or is the Dell wireless Utility managing the wireless connection?
If you download and install netstumbler -
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Network-Monitoring/NetStumbler.shtml
and run it, does it see your network?

When running that program on my desktop I see my home network and a couple of others. It's so bizzare how when using the network adapter that my desktop uses in my laptop that I cannot see the same networks. Pretty freakin' annoying! :P

Try booting the laptop to Safe Mode with Network Support. Does it see your wireless network in this mode? If so, then it says that something running from startup in Normal mode is hiding the network.
